Member sessions

We host casual member sessions every month for classical guitarists of all abilities to perform to a friendly group of peers. Twice a year from 2027 we intend to hold Guitar Days for our members to work on technique with teachers in our community, and with concluding members concerts.

Our sessions are held in members' homes for six months of the year, in the chapel at St Saviour's for four months, with the Guitar Days also being at St Saviour's.

Thomas

PhD Student - classical guitar improvisation (Guildhall School of Music & Drama)

Growing up in a musical family I played all sorts of different instruments but settled on the guitar, which then became my profession.

I’m doing a PhD at Guildhall where I study improvisation on the Guitar in the early nineteenth century in theory, and in my personal practice.

I enjoy the vibrant energy at WiGS and the community of so many different people who are all passionate about the classical guitar.

Eva (a WiGS member) playing the guitar
Eva

Student

I have only recently begun my journey of exploring the vitality of the classical guitar, but it has already cemented itself as a fundamental part of my life. It is unclear whether passion is truly any different from obsession, but I am walking a fine line nonetheless!

I am in love with the way this instrument can tell a story, whether through the dramatic rhythms of Piazzolla, or the intricate counterpoint of J.S. Bach.

I have also learned how the classical guitar connects us to one another. WiGS is a vibrant community, not just with music, but with support and enthusiasm, and it is wonderful to create in such a welcoming space.

Adam (a WiGS member) playing the guitar
Adam

Funeral Service Crew

I have played the guitar for nearly 35 years and cannot imagine life without it. I have a Bachelor of Music Degree from Canterbury Christ Church University taught by Jeff Alexander and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under John Mills, Eleftheria Kotzia and Graham Devine.

I then taught this wonderful instrument for 10 years in Gibraltar, as a tutor at the Gibraltar Academy of Music and Performing Arts, at the local secondary schools, and privately.

Now in London, teaching has taken a back seat but I am grateful to everyone at WiGS for the opportunity to keep my performing going.

Creative Associations

We are proud to support our members' guitar-related initiatives.
